Vibrant illuminated artwork
Designed especially for the Birmingham Light Festival
CLIENT: Birmingham Light Festival
CATEGORY: Arts and Culture
PROJECT TYPE: Public Art
LOCATION: Birmingham, UK
MATERIALS: Repurposed materials
PHOTOGRAPHER: Hayley Salter
APPROACH:
Our joyful and vibrant artwork nods to the rhythm and repetition of the manufacturing processes within our workshop. The colourful pattern reflects our joy of making and our location in the heart of the Jewellery Quarter. Featured on the exterior of our workshop, our striking artwork brightened up our neighbourhood. During the festival, we hosted Atelier du Lumiere, which invited visitors to take a peek inside our theatrically illuminated workshop.
We asked Alex Nicholson-Evans, City Curator and founder of Birmingham Light Festival, to share her thoughts: Birmingham Light Festival truly was the story of a city coming together to create something extraordinary in the face of adversity. The response to our open call was fantastic, and seeing local studios like Dual Works produce such joyful and beautiful work for the inaugural edition was incredibly exciting. I was thrilled to see the Jewellery Quarter community come together to deliver such a creative collective response to the theme of light.
