Contemporary display furniture

The Offbeat Sari is a major touring exhibition from the Design Museum, hosted by Midlands Art Centre

CLIENT: Midlands Art Centre and Design Museum

CATEGORY: Arts and Culture

PROJECT TYPE: Exhibition display furniture

LOCATION: Birmingham, UK

MATERIALS: Honeycomb board, colour-matched fixings, MDF, PAR, with repurposed materials

PHOTOGRAPHER: Tegen Kimbley, courtesy of the Midlands Art Centre

APPROACH:

For the Birmingham iteration of this touring exhibition, our role within the team was to build and install the exhibition display furniture, interpreting the exhibition design conceived by Studio Mutt, seen in London and Amsterdam. Our focus included technical problem-solving by utilising a combination of fabrication techniques across digital and analogue processes.

The Offbeat Sari is a major exhibition from the Design Museum, conceived and curated by Priya Khanchandani. Celebrating the contemporary sari, it shows how designers, wearers and craftspeople are reshaping how the sari is understood, designed, made and worn in contemporary urban India.
