APPROACH:
We were challenged to transform a tired and dysfunctional optician’s consultation room. Our approach was sensitive and complementary to the detail-oriented, high-quality eyewear carefully curated within this eyewear store.
Central to the design concept is a playful illuminated lighting feature which showcases colourful optical lenses. This focal point and conversation starter provides an ambient lighting effect by varying colour, vibrancy and tone. A vibrant yellow colour palette complements the brand identity and the material qualities of the birch plywood, and the valchromat light feature helps to visually soften the clinical equipment by adding warmth and texture. We paired this with a feature worktop made of recycled yoghurt pots by Smile plastic, which adds a subtle textural element and a fresh, clean work surface.
We reconfigured the space to function more effectively, focusing on showcasing the specialist equipment by framing the optical devices. We addressed the functionality of the room and transformed a cluttered and awkward space by incorporating a work area, specialist tool storage, a paperwork filing pocket, and an eye wash area. Alongside this, it was important to create a warm, inviting, and non-medical environment with a relaxing and welcoming atmosphere.
