Birmingham Design and Friends
Birmingham Design hosted a fantastic Makers Market in which they supported a great mix of talented folk across various creative practices.
We showcased a new collection of stools, which are now available to purchase from our Jewellery Quarter studio and workshop.

Illuminate
We are collaborating with artist and designer John Hall, bringing together our individual design practices to explore new horizons, investigating illuminated light forms.
John’s passion and expertise bring a love of colour, pattern and surface to this collaboration, combined with our experience of form, structure and materials.

“More than a coffee, it’s a community”
We celebrated the opening of Tranquil 1992 Birmingham’s first Vietnamese coffee shop, located just around the corner from us in the Jewellery Quarter.
We have thoroughly enjoyed working with our JQ neighbours to design, make and install their coffee counter area & window seat. Tranquil can be found just around the corner from our studio and workshop in the Jewellery Quarter.

10 years of Dual Works
It’s an amazing coincidence that we are celebrating our 10th anniversary along with the Jewellery Quarter Festival this year.
To mark this special occasion, we will be showcasing a series of 10 celebratory stools and will be giving one away as a special prize during the festival! Follow along on our Instagram, where we will be featuring each stool in the run-up to the festival!

Birmingham awarded World Craft City Status
Birmingham has officially been recognised as a World Craft City - making it one of just eight in Europe to receive the prestigious designation from the World Crafts Council.
This signifies a landmark moment for Birmingham and the wider West Midlands, placing the city’s historic Jewellery Quarter - home to an internationally renowned community of jewellers, makers and creative businesses - firmly on the global stage.

Celebrating Sari's
A wonderful party atmosphere at the opening night of The Offbeat Sari hosted by the Midlands Art Centre, and a joy to celebrate with the amazing team we have been working alongside throughout this project.
The Offbeat Sari is a major exhibition from the Design Museum, conceived and curated by Priya Khanchandani. For the Birmingham iteration of this touring exhibition, our role within the team was to build and install the exhibition display furniture.

Birmingham Light Festival
We are excited to reveal a new illuminated artwork created especially for the inaugural Birmingham Light Festival, and we will host Atelier de Lumiere.
Our joyful artwork nods to the rhythm and repetition of our manufacturing processes and will be displayed on the outside of our workshop throughout the festival.

Made in the Middle
We are super proud of our team member, Olivia, whose new collection of stools is featured in the touring exhibition Made in the Middle.
Showcasing the work of thirty-seven artists who represent the region’s vibrant and diverse creative community. The exhibition tells the story of exceptional contemporary craft and design made in the Midlands.

Longlisted for a MacEwan Award
Notably, our colourful Welcome Arch was longlisted for the RIBA Journal MacEwen Award 2025, a celebration of 30 projects which epitomise architecture for the common good.
We were thrilled to be shortlisted for this award, and a wonderful testament to the hard work of the local community and partners; the Pendle Festival of Culture, Nelson, and the National Festival of Making, Blackburn.

Waste Age
We thoroughly enjoyed the opening night of Waste Age, a touring exhibition hosted by Midlands Art Centre and conceived by the Design Museum.
It was great to celebrate the culmination of our collaboration with curator Roma Piotrowska, in which we designed and made the exhibition display furniture which complements the ethos of the exhibition.

National Festival of Making Announcement
Pendle Festival of Culture, Nelson, and National Festival of Making, Blackburn, have awarded designer maker studio Dual Works a co-commission to produce a brand new work.
The final form of the artwork is as-yet undefined, as Dual Works will be designing and evolving the piece through a process of co-creation with local communities, making this artwork with, and for, the people of Nelson and Blackburn.

Designers in Residence
We are delighted to be collaborating with the New Art Gallery Walsall on a design project exploring possibilities for a new visual system within the Gallery.
During the residency, we will be engaging with visitors and the staff team to playfully experiment with inclusive signage systems, focusing on the Garmen Ryan collection.

Creative workshops
We are excited to partner with Craftspace to run a series of creative workshops at the Heart of Birmingham Vocational College.
Initiated by HS2, the company building the UK’s new high-speed rail line, the ‘Washwood Heath Creates’ programme enables College learners to develop imaginative ideas for the planned public space around the new Washwood Heath Depot.

MacEwan Award 2024
Our collaborative project Loop the Loop, co-designed with Intervention Architecture, has been longlisted for the RIBA Journal MacEwen Award 2024.
Showcasing exemplars in architecture for the common good, this project was part of the Moseley Road Baths activity programme. Exploring how the library can support storytelling and narrative for a broad range of audiences.

Official opening at Sense
It was absolutely wonderful to be invited to the official opening of the Children’s studio for Sense charity at Touchbase Pears.
Celebrating our collective achievement, we showcased our furniture project by sharing drawings, prototypes and collaborative thinking from concept to realisation.

Sensory Solution
Our collaborative work with Sense Charity was featured in the New York-based Architecture and Design publication Metropolis.
We were interviewed by journalist Kim Megson, and discussed the importance of accessible and inclusive design. We highlighted how we collaborated with Sense, which is a national charity that supports people who have complex disabilities or are deafblind to communicate, connect and take part in life.

Forest Fundraiser
In exchange for donations, we are delighted to announce that together we raised £720.00 for the Heart of England Forest to help them establish and protect vital new woodlands in the Midlands.
We designed and made 100 limited edition, joyful Christmas tree decorations for the Jewellery Quarter Christmas light trail, especially to support this charity whose mission is to create and conserve a thriving broadleaf Forest of 30,000 acres.

Our work was featured in Design Economy, the UK’s most comprehensive exploration of the value of design—economic, social, and environmental.
Published every three years by the Design Council. Spotlight: Craft in Birmingham reported how the Jewellery Quarter Improvement District, alongside local collective Quartermasters, are leading on championing local craft and design businesses in the area.
