Community-focused window display

Designed for Brittian Opticians to interact with their neighbourhood

PHOTOGRAPHER: Hayley Salter

APPROACH:

We collaborated with the team at Brittain Opticians to create a playful window display which focuses on the local community. Our approach was to attract attention from passers-by, inviting curiosity and intrigue. By directly reflecting Brittain's customer experience and personal service, which is welcoming, friendly, and a sense of fun.

The shop window provides a large street-facing area directly onto a vibrant High Street and offers the opportunity to be more imaginative and engaging. To transform this tired, cluttered window, we focused our thinking on the locality and considered ways to engage the community.

The resulting display is impactful, standing out from the visual clutter and detritus on the street. Its simplicity draws attention and sets it apart from adjacent shop fronts. The display is adaptable and modular, with different modes for longevity. The magnet lettering enables spontaneity and creates a visual system that can be easily changed by the team.

We complemented their design-oriented eyewear by reflecting this in terms of the quality of materials, combination of handcrafted and digital manufacturing techniques, visual sophistication, and attention to detail.

Brittain Optician is an independent optician and eyewear specialist located on the high street in Harborne, Birmingham. Firmly established in the neighbourhood, it offers a bespoke personalised service and expert advice.
