Natural tones and a neutral colour palette create a calming ambience for this beautiful laundry room, with understated simplicity enhanced by textural surfaces.

Complementary material qualities are amplified by integrating the following features; beech clothes rails, reeded glass doors, fluted birch plywood sliding doors, brass door handles, and Foresso, a timber terrazzo work surface.

We were challenged to reimagine and transform our client’s lifeless utility room as a practical space for undertaking household laundry.

The design brief focused on identifying problems within the utility area and we proposed ways to address these issues.

We aimed to make the laundry process easier, more efficient and in a more serene environment. Practicality and functional aspects were fully considered whereby we integrated a series of hand-crafted clothes racks.

Our design response to the following problems;

  • To disguise the boiler and pipework, but must be accessible for ongoing maintenance work and to access the heating system.

  • To consider how drying racks can be integrated within the design.

  • To disguise the ugly washing machine and tumble dryer.

  • To create a worktop counter for sorting and folding clothes.

  • To ensure ample storage space for household and cleaning items such as vacuum cleaners, laundry baskets, mops, brooms, ironing board, washing detergents, spray cleaners.
