Moseley Gym

Photography by Crumb

We were commissioned by a keen cyclist to design, manufacture and install a suite of bespoke furniture tailor-made for a home gym.

The catalyst for the design approach was our client’s enthusiasm for cycling, whereby the UCI world championship colour bands provided the colourful aesthetic detail.

The gym is also used for other types of exercise including yoga so it was important that the space evoked a sense of calmness and could be viewed from many angles particularly if you were exercising on the floor and looking up.   Birch plywood was chosen here as a way to bring warmth and tranquillity to the space.

A range of custom furniture was created especially for the pegboard including a trainer rack, towel holders, and shelving. The pegboard enables the family to curate their sports equipment and keeps it adaptable and flexible for longevity.  Additionally, we crafted two mobile storage cubes with a unique hinged lid which includes a striped detail.  We created coloured towel holders with gym rings and included a leather strap which had a matching colour stitched detail. These were crafted by a local Leather maker B18  in the Jewellery Quarter, Birmingham.

Furthermore repeating linear details are seen throughout this project as a way to showcase the exquisite birch plywood edges and includes a custom detail in which we have applied Formica laminate in specific areas to showcase the colourful UCI colour bands in sequence.  The linear shelving elements allow light through, showcase the colourful stripes in sequence and have been assembled with visible engineering components

We thoroughly enjoyed transforming this space and creating this, especially for our clients.
