Contemporary plywood pavilion

to display historic garments for the National Memorial Arboretum

CLIENT: National Memorial Arboretum

CATEGORY: Arts and Culture

PROJECT TYPE: Exhibition design and fabrication of display furniture

LOCATION: Burton-on-Trent, UK

MATERIALS: Birch plywood

PHOTOGRAPHER: Elouisa Georgiou

APPROACH:

Thinking beyond traditional mannequins, we created a contemporary pavilion to display historic garments, for ‘Remember Together: 1944 Service, Sacrifice and Collaboration. An exhibition presented by the Royal British Legion, which shared stories of friendship alongside a range of military uniforms, objects and artefacts.

We collaborated with the National Memorial Arboretum on the creation of this exhibition display furniture, which sensitively echoed architectural details and materials found within their building. The linear framework created an atmospheric environment that changed throughout the day as light and shadow shifted on the garments.
