We created an illuminated artwork to brighten up our neighbourhood especially for the inaugural Birmingham Light Festival.

Connect More is shared stitching device which aims to aid an interaction between two people, as a mechanism to initiate conversation whilst undertaking a crafting activity.
A community-focused collaborative play installation created for Balsall Heath Library and Moseley Road Baths
We formed a design team with learners from the Heart of Birmingham Vocational College to imagine ideas for the public realm around the Washwood Heath Depot, HS2’s national maintenance facility.
A collaborative approach was central to building a relationship with the team at Sense Charity. We created sensory and inclusive furniture guided by their knowledge and expertise, which celebrates their community.

A collaborative process was central to the design of an interactive stage set for Spectra Arts, a performance company that draws on the diverse creativity of its mixed professional and learning-disabled community cast to devise multi-sensory theatre.
We collaborated with Quartermasters, a Birmingham-based maker collective, to create a pop-up community space and mobile display for a vintage Pashley picador trike.

Natural tones and a neutral colour palette create a calming ambience for this dream laundry room, with understated simplicity enhanced by textural surfaces.
We playfully imagined a synthesiser playground to house an array of experimental electronic sound equipment, including an extensive synthesiser collection.
A dream birch plywood kitchen created in collaboration with the good folk at Five Acre Barn, a contemporary bed and breakfast on the Suffolk coastline.
We were challenged to transform a bland and soulless space into a warm and inviting lounge in keeping with the history of the building located on the prestigious St Pauls Square, Birmingham.
We thoroughly enjoyed working with the team at Glimpse on the creation of a suite of custom furniture for their incredible eyewear store in the beautiful Great Western Arcade, Birmingham.
Our design approach for a suite of tailor-made furniture for a home gym was our client’s enthusiasm for cycling, whereby the UCI world championship colour bands inspired the colourful design detail.

We were invited by Tidy Architects to make a suite of custom furniture for time. a new flagship barbershop located in the heart of Shoreditch, London.
A dream birch plywood kitchen designed in collaboration with a keen vegetarian cook and allotment holder. Plot to plate features a custom interior designed, made and installed by us.
In collaboration with Intervention Architecture, we were invited to fabricate furniture designs for a new cultural space for Birmingham, a non-profit space for writing, books, and artists’ films in the city centre.
Carefully crafted and thoughtful in design details, we reconfigured this home office to make ample use of the space available and to suit our client’s needs and personal style.
If you love birch plywood and enjoy fine wine then you will appreciate our wine connoisseurs’ cellar, which we had the pleasure of designing and making for a beautiful home in Birmingham.
Inspire, educate and promote
We design and make display furniture to communicate your exhibition ethos
Midlands Art Centre challenged us to create display furniture which complemented the ethos of the Design Museum’s “Waste Age’ exhibition. Our approach was to explore materials which had a previous life or the ability to be repurposed, reused or recycled at the end of the exhibition.
Flexible and adaptable display furniture designed to transform the atrium gallery commissioned by the Vittoria Street Gallery, School of Jewellery, Birmingham City University.
We worked closely with the Coffin Works to reimagine how to deliver their Museum programme. We collaborated to find the best solutions which led to a series of social distancing devices.
Our design approach needed to be sensitive, authentic, and complimentary. We designed a modular and adaptive exhibition display system which centres around the idea of a Bee Hive, establishing a sense of place for the Hive Gallery.
We were challenged to design a freestanding display for historic garments without using traditional mannequins for the exhibition ‘Remember Together 1944’. We created an atmospheric pavilion that echoed the architectural details found within the National Memorial Arboretum.
We designed and created a series of sensory objects for an exhibition called flockOmania including the design of the exhibition which was showcased across multiple national and international venues.
Joining together, making together, and making connections shaped our thinking for this national touring exhibition ‘We are Commoners,” curated by Craftspace.
“It was a real pleasure to work with Dual Works on the design of furniture for the Waste Age exhibition at MAC.
They developed a unique design for the display plinths that perfectly aligned with the exhibition's ethos. The main structural components of the plinths are wooden Doka H20 eco P beams, sourced from construction sites where they are typically used as temporary supports for poured concrete. Additionally, wood from previous exhibitions and studio offcuts were repurposed for the new plinths.
Dual Works introduced a distinctive concept incorporating yellow ratchet straps, which allow the components to be temporarily fixed, highlighting the importance of reusability. True to the exhibition's values, all wood and straps will be reused or recycled after the exhibition ends.
Their friendly and professional approach made the collaboration seamless and enjoyable, and I was particularly impressed with how thoughtfully they approached the project. It was truly a pleasure working with them.”

They have completed a number of projects in my house, from a jeweller's bench, wardrobes made from old house doors, an office-library based on 1960s municipal libraries and, most recently, a music workstation using an old school cabinet which I've had for years.

Dual Works responded to our brief and the themes and ethos of the exhibition with creativity and practicality. They devised a visual identity in collaboration with the exhibition’s graphic designer that referenced ideas of play, DIY and reuse. The build they have created is a clean aesthetic but striking which is important to mark out Craftspace’s work in the various tour venues. It is also practical and robust for touring; easily packed down, stored or transported and assembled. The best thing is it is all reusable or recyclable!
