Coffin Works

During the pandemic, we worked closely with the Coffin Works to reimagine how to deliver their tour programme in relation to the Covid restrictions.

We collaborated to find the best solutions to help the public move around their environment in a safe manner which led to the creation of a series of social distancing devices to help them offer a new self-guided tour.

We designed and made way markers to act as social distancing devices which were purposefully integrated, so as not to be dominate, clinical or obtrusive. These take on the characterises and are sensitive to the heritage and charm of the building. A group of mobile planters transformed the courtyard into a pocket park, which can be moved around the space to guide and close off areas if needed. We utilised reclaimed wood found in the loft to make some of the items to complement the existing furniture.

Further to this, we designed and installed a bespoke sliding door in keeping with the style of the interior panelling. This addition enables the space to be divided and separate areas for events, workshops or to open up for tours and performances

It was a wonderful experience to have been able to explore this beautiful place behind the scenes and we feel privileged to have seen their collections close up.

Coffin Works Museum Manager Sarah Hayes comments

“When we initially approached the Dual Works to undertake work for us at the Coffin Works, our brief was basic and safe, but Zoe and Steve’s vision brought it to life. They got us thinking and enabled us to be more creative, developing our brief so that it was more than just functional. This came from a true passion for what they do but also an appreciation of who we are.

Their approach is the perfect blend of personal and professional, but more than anything else, they care about getting the right results for their clients. They are our ‘go to’ design team and their quality and consistency has secured them multiple projects with us. I couldn’t recommend them more highly.”
