Warm and inviting Barbershop

Crafted birch plywood barber stations

CLIENT: Time.

CATEGORY: Commercial

PROJECT TYPE: Bespoke furniture manufacture

LOCATION: London, UK

MATERIALS: Birch plywood

PHOTOGRAPHER: Ron Timehin courtesy of Time.

APPROACH:

We were commissioned to make a suite of custom furniture for Time. a new flagship barbershop located in the heart of Shoreditch, London. The co-founders approached TIDY Architects with a wholesome and simple brief: to develop a warm and welcoming space that reflected their personalities. Set amongst a typically vibrant Shoreditch side street, Time. was always intended to be more than a barbershop. It is a social space, a coffee shop, a workspace, a gallery, or whatever the owners felt could benefit their friends and the local community.

The required building works were minimal, making the project more about the careful placement of bespoke joinery elements. This furniture needed to be both elegant and robust, transforming a simple white shell into something unique and full of interest. The custom barber stations were crafted from Birch Plywood. The quality of this material is embraced and characterised by an exquisite, layered edge detail and subtle grain pattern. A honey tone colour adds warmth to create a calm, elegant and quietly sophisticated design direction. Paired with a beautiful Charcoal Walnut Foresso worksurface, which adds a layer of texture and intrigue.

TIDY Architects are a design-led practice, driven to create beautiful, distinct buildings and spaces, intended to be inhabited and enjoyed.
