Cocoon Home Office

Home office deigned and made by Dual Works. Furniture designer and maker based in Jewellery Quarter, Birmingham.

We had the pleasure of designing and making this beautiful home office for our client based in Birmingham.

This project was carefully crafted and thoughtful in design details, whereby we reconfigured this home office to make ample use of the space available and to suit our client’s needs and personal style.

This awkward area with a sloping roof was located on a top-floor landing and our solution was to transform this  into a warm, inviting space which has now been named the “cocoon”. Material properties were selected to enable the design of a sophisticated and elegant home office. Linear qualities and warm tones create a calming and tranquil space.

A textured backdrop of acoustic oak panelling helps to soften sound and provides a stylish design feature. This was paired with beautiful oak-faced sliding doors with a grooved surface to add to this calming ambience and introduces a tactile quality. Sliding cupboard doors make full use of the available space, and we ensured they were functional and practical with adjustable shelves for storing various office equipment.

The cantilevered desk is an impressive feature which fits across the length of the wall to allow for ample paperwork to be spread out whilst working. This has been positioned to the correct working height specifically for our client. We selected Forbo desktop in mushroom to create a warm surface on the desk with a neutral colour tone enhanced by the linear edge of birch plywood.
